Northern Tilth worked with five farms in Connecticut for multiple years to improve on-farm composting systems including a mortality composting system at a dairy, a heavily-bedded horse manure composting system, and a large composting operation at a piggery, which accepts food waste from nearby communities. Northern Tilth is determining whether providing composting technical assistance to on-farm composting operations is a conservation practice that the NRCS could fund in the future. The findings will be published in a final report.
